Teaching was very close to Karla's heart. It was her passion.
She had more than 20 years of teaching experience, ranging from kindergarten through high school. Her original training was as a kindergarten teacher from her home country, Guatemala.
Karla said, “I truly believe that God has given each one of us gifts. I was blessed to be able to use my gifts and share with my students about the wonderful things God has for us. As a teacher, my goal is to help students reach their greatest potential in Christ. I love introducing young minds to a different culture and language through the message of salvation to the world."
For Karla and I, it was always very important for us to do as scripture instructs us to, “train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is older he will not depart from it.”
That’s why we enrolled them at New Covenant Christian School, where they receive a classical education with a Biblical worldview. At New Covenant they partner with parents in the educating of their children. That word “partnering” was key for us.
So, as I was thinking of a fitting way to honor Karla’s memory, I thought it’d be appropriate to establish The Karla Rubio Glennon Memorial Endowment to provide perpetual scholarships and grants to those who want to participate in a Christ-centered K-12 education.
In researching how to do this I talked to some of my friends about it. And, a very generous anonymous donor has graciously offered to match every dollar that comes in, up to $50,000.
Now, in order to get that matching donation, I must gather the first $50,000. Now, that seems like a lot of money, and I’ve never tried to raise money like this before. But, with God, all things are possible.
If we can do that, that means the $50,000 automatically becomes $100,000.
I think that would be an awesome tribute to remember Karla.
So, there is no pressure to give. You’ve already given of your time and resources just by being here. Travel expenses, flowers, food, etc it’s all expensive. And, I thank you for that.
But, if the Lord puts it on your heart to plant a seed into this, we have the potential to start this endowment off with $100,000. I know the boys and I will give generously to it.
The funds will be deposited into what is called a Donor Advised Fund with Fidelity Charitable.
All of the money will be invested and never spent. It will never go below the original starting balance. The folks at Fidelity will help with the investment decisions to ensure growth. And, the returns on those investments (the money the investments earn) will be used to provide perpetual scholarships and grants to those who want to participate in a Christ-centered K-12 education. So these are not one-time scholarships, and then the money is gone. This provides for an ongoing legacy of scholarships and grants.
Now we’ve had to set this up quickly to make it available today. And, because of that, and the tax laws, this would NOT be considered a tax-deductible contribution. Still, It would be a great ongoing legacy in Karla’s memory.
If you’d like to join me in the endeavor, checks should be made out to myself, and in the memo line put Karla Glennon Memorial, so I know what it is for. We can also accept contributions through CashApp and Paypal if you want to do a bank transfer or use a credit card. If you want to donate some other way, talk to me and I’ll figure out how we can do that.
I guarantee you all of the money will go into this fund. It is NOT to support me or the boys. It is not to pay for funeral expenses. God is our source, and he takes great care of us!
If you choose to give I will make sure you get an update on how much has come in.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to remember Karla in this way.
